CE Certification Overview

We have many of our important gloves tested against many risks and have them CE certified for different categories. Our gloves are mainly tested against Mechanical risks, Heat, Cold, and Chainsaw cut. Protective gloves can be divided into 3 categories depending on type and which risk or danger the gloves should protect against.

Category 1

Gloves of simple design, for minimal risks only. Example: house-hold gloves for cleaning, protection against warm objects (not exceeding +50°C), light-duty gardening gloves, or other work with minimal risk.

Category 2

Gloves of intermediate design, for intermediate risks. These gloves are independently tested and certified by a Notified Body, with a CE marking showing their protective capacities. Example: general handling gloves requiring good puncture and abrasion performance (EN 388).

Category 3

Gloves of complex design, for irreversible or mortal risks (e.g., highly corrosive acids). These gloves are also independently tested and certified by a Notified Body approved by the EU commission.

EN 420

This standard defines the general requirements for protective gloves in terms of construction, fitness of purpose, safety, etc. Gloves should not impose a risk or cause injury. pH should be close to neutral. Leather gloves: pH 3.5 - 9.5. Chromium VI max: 3 mg/kg. Details of any allergenic substances must be provided. Gloves are sized by reference to a common European hand size.

EN 388

Gloves giving protection from mechanical risks. Protection is shown by a pictogram and four numbers (performance levels):

X = not tested, O = did not pass.

EN 511

Gloves giving protection from cold. The pictogram is accompanied by a 3-digit code:

EN 12477

Welding gloves: Protection for hand and wrist while welding. Combines EN 388 and EN 407. Type A: higher heat protection. Type B: more flexible and pliable.

EN 381-7

Chain Saw gloves: Protection against hand-held chain saws. Tested for EN 420 and resistance to chainsaw cut. Three classes: 0, 1, and 2.
